c.1965 Japan, Mister Softee Ice Cream Truck
I don't know if this Mister Softee truck was originally available through a store or a premium, but it's only the second or third example I've seen that wasn't "very well" played with. The toy is friction drive tin litho and features the red, white, and blue Mister Softee cone head with bow tie on both sides and the rear door. As best as I can recall it's an excellent representation of the actual truck. It has embossed fenders, counter molding on the sides (below the walk-up windows), and window frames. In addition to the terrific lithography the rear door opens and closes, and the front bumpers and headlights are polished tin. The chassis is a single plate and is also polished tin and embossed. The wheels are plastic. The toy is marked "Made in Japan", but I couldn't determine the manufacturer. I've never seen an original box for this toy, it it had one. Size: 4". Sold: Oct. 2007
